Henderson, Nevada is renowned for its wide array of family friendly recreational activities. The city's Parks and Recreation Department has received several awards, and enjoys a strong reputation nationally.
To compensate for Southern Nevada's hot summers, the City of Henderson has built a number of community pools, including Black Mountain Aquatic Center is the largest pool in Nevada. The Henderson Multigenerational Center, also the largest in the state, features an outdoor heated pool, basketball, volleyball and racquetball courts, multiple aerobic classes, state of the art body building facility and sport specific leagues of all sorts.
The Henderson Pavilion, an out door amphitheater, regularly hosts live entertainment of all variations, including multiple styles of music, dance and theatrical events. Additionally, the Pavilion hosts seasonal celebrations for families, including the annual Halloween festival, Artfest and a fabulous 4th of July celebration.
For the urban outdoor enthusiast, Henderson, Nevada features almost 200 miles of trails bringing together local schools, shopping districts and entertainers. Trails allow for walking, running, bicycles, and horses.
Henderson is surrounded by the Black Mountain Nature Reserve. While this area is protected by the state it is still open to hiking, bird watching and some camping. Henderson is about 30 minutes from Lake Mead so it's easy for Henderson residents to take part in boating and fishing.
Among several local golf courses, the Wildhorse Golf Club is regularly ranked among the best in all Las Vegas. This par 70 layout was previously part of the PGA Tour. Since redesigned, the Wildhorse is a favorite among those who call Henderson home. Due to Southern Nevada's great weather, play is offered almost every day of the year.
