I appreciate the article above for reminding the public what to do in a school zone, often times people are distracted and do not pay attention to what's going on around them. However, in this case I feel it's the school not paying attention. I live down the street from DL Dickens ES and have seen the most reckless parents and kids on Walnut St. There are "no parking anytime" signs yet parents park illegally, blocking traffic. Kids do not cross with the guard either, they run across the street barely missing oncoming cars. I have to drive below the required 15mph in order to not hit the kids. Intersections become blocked and traffic can not move due to parents illegally parking. I've said things to the parents, such as, can you park on the streets off of Walnut, or, your kids need to cross the street where the guard is. I usually get flicked off or cussed at. I've been calling the cops for almost 2 years, at least twice a week. I've contacted the school, the crossing guard "boss", and the county board. I wonder if it'll take a kid getting hit for someone to take action just like the 6 year old girl who died this week. This school isn't far away from that unfortunate accident at a dangerous cross walk.
