While many communities have moved to desert landscaping for water conservation, Painted Desert real estate has maintained its reputation for lush greenery.  Perhaps that's because of the area's centerpiece, Painted Desert Golf Course. Designed by Jay Moorish and constructed in 1987, Painted Desert was Las Vegas' first desert-target golf course. At the time, its par 72 layout with quick fairways and unfamiliar desert grasses was considered one of the toughest in the state. But desert golf caught on, and now Painted Desert is one of many such courses throughout Las Vegas, albeit more established and refined than others.  This course has been home to the Nevada Open and continues to receive rankings as one of the best-maintained public courses in the entire state of Nevada. The course offers several challenging signature holes well known amongst the golfing community.  The club offers dining, a wonderful golf shop and a practice facility.  Painted Desert Golf Club also makes a big promise, the “Best Price Guarantee.”  Try it out, you’ll see.

Homes in the Painted Desert community began to be constructed in the early 90’s, soon after the completion of the golf course.  Residents can enjoy a majestic view from the privacy of their backyard. If you’re not located on the golf course, chances are you will have a just as beautiful view of the Spring Mountain Range.  If you’re lucky you might even have both!

Painted Desert homes consist of several different neighborhoods. Homebuyers can choose from condominiums to townhomes to villas and single-family homes. The community streets are lined with vegetation as well as more greenery for those homes that border the Painted Desert Golf Club.  Shopping centers, schools, parks, recreational centers, golf courses and many other amenities are a short distance away. Mount Charleston, Floyd Lamb State Park, Town Center, and the Paiute Indian Reservation and Golf Course are just a drive down the road as well.  Residents still can enjoy a little peace and quiet 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip.

Las Vegas Real Estate is Cleaning Up
Have you ever heard of a tamarisk? It sounds like it could be an exotic herb or rare delicacy but it is neither. The tamarisk is in the evergreen tree family and is also known as the salt cedar. With over 50 different species these plants grow rampantly in salty areas. Many have made their home in the Las Vegas Real Estate area through the waterways. The tamarisk takes root and as the roots lengthen and descend further down into the soil it sucks up the salt from the soil. As times progresses the tree will basically sweat out the salt through its leaves leaving a light covering of salt on the surrounding soil. Over time this salt builds up creating large salt deposits that hinder water passage and growth to surrounding foliage. These deposits can only be washed away by heavy rains and since heavy rains are not that common in Las Vegas it tends to be a problem. Tamarisks rid of most of the plant competition in the area as they take all the salt and any water source below the surface with their incredible extensive root system. Along with robbing the soil in the sweating process any plant that would survive is usually damaged by too much salt atop the surface. The tamarisk quickly takes over acreage along waterways restricting water flow by crowding the area and by killing other plants necessary to keep waterways healthy. Tamarisk removal in Las Vegas can only be successful if it is uprooted. The city of Henderson is currently in the process of eliminating the tamarisk as one of the larger focuses of Project Green. The city believes that tamarisk removal is one of the only ways to restore health and beauty to the surrounding waterways that have been encroached on and maimed by the tamarisk.
