While many communities have moved to desert landscaping for water conservation, Painted Desert has maintained its reputation for lush greenery.
Perhaps that's because of the area's centerpiece, Painted Desert Golf Course. Constructed in 1987, Painted Desert was Las Vegas' first desert-target golf course. At the time, its par 72 layout with quick fairways and unfamiliar desert grasses was considered one of the toughest in the state. But desert golf caught on, and now Painted Desert is one of many such courses throughout Las Vegas, albeit more established and refined than others.
The Painted Desert master planned commmunity was conceived soon after, with homes beginning to appear around the golf course by 1990. Choices in Painted Desert real estate include villas, condos, and single family homes, with prices starting at about 200,000 for condos.
Beyond golf, a wide variety of recreation opportunities exist in Painted Desert. Nearby Floyd Lamb State Park and Mount Charleston offer scenic terrain for hiking, fishing, and even snowboarding in winter.
